As our school approaches its Centenary in 2017, we are searching for past students, teachers, parents and school staff who attended or worked at Mary Immaculate School (St Joseph’s Convent/The Ipswich Road Convent) in the past decades. We would love to hear from you and invite you to join us for our Centenary celebrations on the weekend of April 29/30th, 2017. On Saturday, 29th April, the school is hosting a Night Under the Stars reunion celebration in the school grounds from 4 pm to 8 pm. This will be a ticketed event with the price to be confirmed. Our special guest will be Hugh Lunn, celebrated author of the best selling childhood memoir, Over the Top with Jim, recounting his school days at Mary Immaculate Primary school in the 1950s.
On Sunday, 30th April, Archbishop Mark Coleridge will celebrate our Centennial mass in Mary Immaculate Church, followed by a Sunday Roast lunch in the grounds of Mary Immaculate School. Following an initiative started last year, Pope Francis has called for an observance of 24 Hours for the Lord, to be observed throughout the world on the 13th/14th March. He asks that during this time, churches be open, and that Eucharistic adoration be made available, and that priests be available to hear confessions. The Holy Father desires that the Sacrament of Reconciliation be placed at the centre of the Church’s mission of the new evangelization. The theme for this year’s observance is “God Rich in Mercy” (Ephesians 2:4).
In order to observe the Holy Father’s request, we plan to offer the following: we will follow our normal Saturday morning schedule at Mary Immaculate on March 14th [slightly altered]: 7:00am Exposition & Confessions; 7:30am Rosary; 8:00am Mass. Following Mass, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed in the monstrance, and exposition will continue all day until 5:00pm, at which time the day’s prayer will be concluded with Benediction. One of the priests will be available for confession all day (i.e. from after the 8:00am Mass until approximately 4:45pm).
In order for us to remain in the confessional, we will need people to take turns in adoring before the Blessed Sacrament, so that Our Lord is never left unattended. Please see below for the half-hours already signed-up for (indicated by the black):
If you can sign-on for any time during the day, to keep watch before Our Lord, please send Father Adrian an email at email@example.com There is also a sign-on sheet for Adoration at the back of Mary Immaculate church.
Let’s pray that God will draw people to Himself through this initiative, that we may come to know more deeply the richness of His mercy. It might be a good day to mark your diary so that you can make your Lenten confession in preparation for Easter. A sheet to help you with an examination of conscience before celebrating the Sacrament of Penance can be found at the back of the church.
We were to have a working bee at Saint John Fisher Church on Saturday 29th November.
Given what has happened overnight, it makes more sense for us to spend our energy getting Mary Immaculate Church back into shape.
Therefore, all are invited to join the cleanup from 9:00am Saturday at Mary Immaculate.
Good work has been done today, so it looks a lot better than it did this morning. But it will take several washes of the pews and floors before all the dirt is removed, and we could make some progress with washing the walls.

Last year Father Peter Fitzsimons gave a talk for fathers on their importance in the lives of their daughters. Following much positive feedback, many of the wives were keen to hear the talk too. So Father Peter is now giving this talk to mothers letting them know how important the role of the father is in their daughter’s lives.
This talk is only for mothers (not for daughters).
